Our Reputation

We have an enviable reputation for good quality and great value home made pub food. We have a wide selection of Specials to choose from each day as well as our Menu, which you can see on the right of the page.

It doesn't get much better than sitting down to one of our Sunday Roast lunches with a great glass of wine, or a pint of one of our many Real Ales.

OUR FOOD, HOW IT's made and where it comes from

We buy all our ingredients from reputable suppliers – as local as possible – and make everything ourselves from the raw ingredients (there’s actually just one exception to this – more later!)

So you’ll find that our pies are made using fresh short crust pastry, and when you order a pie you get a slice from a large pie – not just a bowl of meat with a pastry lid. The batter we use for our deep-fried haddock is made daily with Kronenbourg added to give it a light, fluffy texture. Our chicken goujons are sliced from fresh chicken breasts and then coated with breadcrumbs made ourselves. The ham in our ham, egg and chips has been cooked by us in a special infusion including cider vinegar herbs and spices. Our fruit crumbles are made using the best available fruit of the season....

Because we make everything ourselves we can usually adapt dishes for those with special needs if required. And because we’re still, first and foremost, a pub rather than a restaurant our prices are kept as keen as possible.

Most of our meat is supplied by our local farmers, Mike and Kathy Fordham at Bradford’s Farm, where they make their own beefburgers, and smoke their own back bacon. Our free-range eggs come from Holmansbridge Farm at Cooksbridge. Our fish is supplied from Newhaven, and our fruit and vegetables from a local supplier in Nutley. Our bread comes daily from the Jack and Jill Bakery in Ringmer, and our cheese from a specialist cheese supplier based in Worthing.

And the exception to the “home-made” rule? It’s our Warm Chocolate Fudge-Cake – one of the few things that we’ve found we just can’t improve on – but still delicious and an ever-popular dessert served with cream or ice-cream.

In addition to our regular menu we’ve an ever changing “specials” board.

If there’s a particular dish you’d like, or you have any questions about our menu, don’t hesitate to get in touch.
